- Removal method depends on the paper and on whether the wall was primed before.
- Damaged drywall paper is sealed and repaired before painting or re-papering.

How we remove wallpaper
We start with a small test area. Strippable papers often come off dry. Peelable papers leave a backing that has to be soaked and scraped. Older papers hung straight onto unprimed drywall are the hardest: water can soften the drywall's paper face, so we work slowly and use a remover solution or steam only where it is safe.
What happens if the drywall tears
Torn drywall paper bubbles if you paint over it with water-based paint. We seal any torn areas with a shellac-based or oil-based primer first, then skim, sand and prime. This step is what separates a wall that looks right from one that shows every scar.
What affects the price
Every quote is written after we see the walls or photos of them. These are the things that move the number:
- Number of layers and type of paper
- Whether the wall was primed before the old paper went up
- Drywall or plaster, and how much damage shows after removal
- Room size, ceiling height and stairwells
- What comes next: paint or new wallpaper

FAQ
Common questions
Can you paint over wallpaper instead?
It is possible but rarely a good idea. Seams and edges show through and the paper can bubble or peel later. Removing it gives a cleaner, longer-lasting result.
How long does wallpaper removal take?
A typical bedroom takes about a day for removal and another day if repairs and skim coating are needed.
Is it messy?
Removal is wet work. We cover floors and furniture, remove outlet plates and clean up at the end of each day.
Do you also hang the new wallpaper?
Yes. Many clients book removal and installation together so the wall is prepared for the new paper in one visit.
